Thanks to a couple of last minute givers, I was able to give the director of the institution a donation of $2,100!
Though the donation certificate is in Bulgarian, you can see the amount written on it (and yes, that’s the actual cash that I gave to her in the photo above).
I posted this, not to brag, but to be accountable to those of you who so generously gave for those that will be left behind. The director will send a detailed invoice of how every dollar was spent and I’ll share that as soon as I have it. To say that she was shocked at the amount of the donation is a mild understatement. She said that the money would go very far for building repairs. Each and every person that gave to this effort was a part of what is going to be a HUGE blessing for all the children in this institution.
Here is the director with me and Annikah:
This lady truly has a very special place in my heart. My son’s future could have been DRASTICALLY different had she ran that institution with a “no one is coming for these kids” attitude(because no one ever had until we got there for Kullen!). My daughter is a precious and loving child. Yes, she’s got some “orphan behaviors”, but nothing big that would make people think she had actually lived the last 2+ years in a mental institution. That is all because of the efforts of this director. Before I left, she asked me to not forget to send her photos of the children. She said, “Even though they are your children, they are still our children too.”
This is our last hug, though I hope to see her again some day!
This institution is always in need of pull-ups and larger sized diapers for the children. Meredith brought a HUGE duffle bag full of over 350 adult sized diapers/large children diapers to donate too!
